1. How do you make your livelihood?
“I am an estate planning attorney. I help new families and mothers, just like you, plan for their futures and protect their families by making a legal plan, naming a guardian for their kiddos and protecting their assets.”
2.How has the birth of your child(ren) shaped your business, changed your business and what strategies did you employ?
“Just before my daughter was born, I had a moment of clarity, or maybe it was a moment of total freak-out. I realized I couldn’t keep going with my current work as a litigation attorney. And, I needed to find more balance and joy in my life to be the mom that I wanted to be and to be a good wife. So, with just days left before my daughter was due, I started to apply for jobs, not expecting a quick turnaround. Yet, I found myself interviewing ONE day before she was due. A couple days later, Eva was born. I took six weeks of unpaid maternity leave and then went full steam ahead at the new job – working hard and doing what I loved.”
Recently, Bonnie saw an opportunity to break away from the firm she was a part of in order to open her own practice focusing on what she is most passionate about – helping families plan for the future. Her law firm is called Wills & Wellness and has recently opened up in the Highlands where many of her clients live and work.
3.What does the typical day/week look like for you?
“I work a pretty typical day. After dropping my daughter off at daycare, I head to the office around 9 a.m. and work until about 5 p.m. when I come home to my wonderful, supportive chef husband making something scrumptious for us.”
4. Speaking of food – what is your favorite food?
As a kid growing up in Texas, the answer was obvious to Bonnie: “Chicken fried steak.” However, “Now with Mr. Chef Husband, I love healthier things like portabella mushroom pizza.” But when it comes to her real favorite – it’s a dessert – key lime pie.
5. What is the secret weapon to your success and balancing entrepreneurship with motherhood?
Without hesitation, Bonnie replied, “freshly ground coffee.” Additionally, Bonnie talked about her focus on family and how providing for them is her main motivation. It sounds as if everything she does is measured against what it will do to help her family thrive and prosper. You can really tell that Bonnie’s family is truly the fire that keeps her going – nearly nonstop might I add. During the interview, it become very apparent that Bonnie has laser focus. She works diligently during the day to help provide for daughter Eva alongside her husband Tom.
6. What has surprised you most about trying to balance your livelihood with motherhood?
“That I am still breast-feeding. Eva is 16 months now. We breastfeed and co-sleep. It is what works for us. I am happy to not have to pump anymore, but I really enjoy the time I can share with her through breast-feeding and don’t have plans of stopping until she is ready.”When Bonnie gave birth, she had a goal of breastfeeding for 12 months. She made her goal while working fulltime from 6 weeks on, while having to pump multiple times a day. She added, “Now, I am not planning it anymore, it just is whatever it is.”
7. How do you manage the days that feel totally overwhelming?
Bonnie shares that she goes most of the time at 110% but when she is feeling low or overwhelmed, she takes a day off to allow herself to just deflate and rest.
8. What scares you most?
Not being a good parent. Neither my husband nor I had the perfect role models. “While my parents did a good job,” she said, “they got divorced and that brought with it some challenges.”
9. What would you do with two hours if you could do anything?
“Go for a run. I used to before Eva, but now it seems I never find the time,” she said.
10. If you suddenly had an extra $100 per week what would you do with it?
“Well, the smart parent in me would put it in a college fund. Maybe get some shoes too. And, at an extra $100 a week or $400 a month I think there would be enough to do both.” Her daughter is very lucky to have a mommy thinking so much about her best interest.

Becoming pregnant is the most beautiful gift, waiting to meet your baby love brings a million emotions. You picture what your little one will look like, who they will become and how this little angel will impact your life. There is nothing that I wanted more than to savor every moment, capture every breath and live with purpose every day.
The one piece of advice that I was given over and over again was to -take as many pictures as possible of every moment- because these little bundles grow SO fast. I prepared my iPhone for constant use, purchased several photo albums and researched every photographer within Colorado. I didn’t want to miss a single thing! I must admit that I am a researcher and planner, especially when it comes to making an investment purchase (I had been looking for a photographer since I was 20 weeks pregnant but just couldn’t find one that I absolutely loved).
At 36 weeks I finally found what I was looking for, in The Bump magazine, it was an ad for a Newborn Photographer that displayed beyond gorgeous photos of pure preciousness. I quickly visited the Ania Mikol Photography website, only to find more breathtaking photos, not just Newborns but Maternity pictures, Senior pictures, Professional pictures, Family sessions and documenting Baby’s First Year through photography. The entire baby club is only $550.00 and with mentioning The Bump brings it down to an incredible price of $275.00. I called Ania to schedule my newborn session, we needed to capture my baby girl before she was 7 days old to insure she would be asleep and pliable enough for different positions.
When I had called to make our appointment Ania mentioned taking Maternity photo’s before I delivered, I must admit that this wasn’t my favorite idea because I wasn’t feeling the most beautiful just entering my 9th month of pregnancy. But I decided in my attempt to capture every moment that I would just go with it. My husband and I both went, 37 weeks along, to meet Ania for the first time and photograph my ever growing belly. We were welcomed very warmly into Ania’s studio, she made us feel comfortable and I was easing into this Maternity shoot idea. We took ones together, I was shot separately, using 3 different “outfits”, we were able to capture beautiful, intimate, special, magical and flattering pictures. When we finally saw our pictures during the reveal I was absolutely blown away, I felt gorgeous, and was incredibly thankful for Ania suggesting this beautiful session.
Just 3 short weeks later we brought our brand new baby girl (only 5 days old) to Ania for her newborn session. I was a little nervous, this being our first time and knowing my little one already hated to be naked, would this be successful? As soon as we walked in a sense of confidence came over me, Ania gently held my baby, calmed her cries and kept the studio very warm to keep our princess comfortable. I was amazed how Ania was able to put our baby in perfect positions, I didn’t know that it was even possible to pose a brand new baby.
She had beautiful knitted hats, angel wings, headbands and so much more for us use in the session. My baby girl pooped and peed during her session (diaper off), which I was embarrassed by, but Ania just told me not to worry, cleaned everything off and continued taking more amazing images of our little princess. Again we were blown away by Ania’s finished product, so much so that we decided to invest in the Baby’s First Year Package.
Though money was tight for us since I was no longer working, it was easy to get caught up in the price of this investment, but after looking at all the frivolous purchases we had no problem making it became clear that capturing these moments would be absolutely priceless. This included our Newborn, 4 Month, 8 Month, 1 Year and a Family Session, along with beautiful printed pictures, announcements and a beautiful pocket sized accordion book that was a huge hit with the grandparents. So far we have had our Maternity, Newborn and 4 Month sessions and each time they just get cuter and cuter.
I almost dare to say that our 4 Month session takes the cake, it was full of whimsy, love and personality. Again being nervous I was scared for the 4 month session because my baby HATES tummy time, doesn’t last more than 3 minutes before screaming or rolling over, the 4 month session has her on her tummy the whole time. Ania some how managed to keep my baby distracted enough that baby love stayed on her tummy for the whole 45 minute session and captured her pureness and sweetness at the same time.
My home is now filled with Baby Art, they are the most beautiful decorations that I have ever had. Seeing my tummy, her sweet face and her personality all over the house brings me joy throughout the day. You can never put a price tag on capturing memories that tell a life story.

Exploring the wilderness and hiking in rough terrain are all part of an outdoors lifestyle that many women enjoy. One of the most common pitfalls of hiking is simply fatigue and accidents that are a result of inappropriate footwear for the terrain. If you’re going to be exploring the great outdoors, you will need the right protective footwear such as women’s hiking boots or shoes.
Shoes are generally more popular as they offer just enough support to ensure that your feet aren’t in pain. In addition, shoes are lighter weight and they allow you to cover more ground in less time. However, hiking shoes are only deemed appropriate if you’re going on a short hike on a well-known trail and carrying a light load. For all other types of terrain or for a long trip, we always recommend women’s hiking boots to get the job done! There may be special cases when you need your boots to fit your specific situation. For instance, you may be looking for the best hiking boots for women, or for wide feet, or for high arches, or plantar fasciitis etc.
Contrary to common wisdom, I would suggest you go with hiking shoes whenever you can. Did you know that thru-hikers actually trek over thousands of miles wearing running shoes and not boots? That’s because it’s been proven that weight on your feet is 4-6 times more taxing on the body than weight on your back. In other words, taking 1,5 pounds off your feet is like taking 12 pounds off your backpack. The numbers are truly like this! And with comfortable shoes on, you minimize the risk of getting blisters, which you’re more likely to get when you wear rigid boots. There’s also the fear to not wear waterproof boots. It’s however preferable, especially in the warm season, that you wear light shoes that dry out quickly, than boots that take a long time to dry, and get a lot heavier when wet.
Information About Hiking Boots
Hiking boots offer better protection as well as ankle support, therefore, they’re much more appropriate for a longer wilderness trip or hike. The one setback of choosing boots is that they have a stiffer construction that may take a while to break-in, but the tradeoff is, of course, full protection of your feet.
You will find that hiking boots are a great option if you have to tackle rough terrain for prolonged periods of time. As an additional bonus, you need to take into consideration that the right boots offer protection against insects, tarantulas or even snakes! One can never be too careful when hiking outdoors as there are plenty of critters to take into consideration.
Beginner hikers can also experience the benefit of ankle protection during the hike and the prevention of tweaked knees. As you hike more, your muscles grow accustomed to the fatigue and the rough terrain, but until you reach that point, it’s best to find supportive footwear such as women’s hiking boots.
A Few Shopping Tips
When you’re ready to go shopping for hiking boots, it’s important to give your purchase some thought. Though we always advise that you buy your boots in-person, that’s not always a possibility. Here are a few shopping tips:
*Only opt for boots that have quality construction and are weather-resistant. You do get what you pay for, so be prepared to spend a bit of money on the right boots.
*Arch support is a must-have in hiking boots as hours spent on your feet can prove to be painful and lead to a number of problems.
*For durability, choose natural leather shoes as they can be waterproof and with time, leather can stretch to fit your feet better.
*Never purchase boots that are too small! You should have an index finger’s amount of space between your heel and the heel of the shoe to ensure the fit is right.
If you’re ready to see what the great outdoors holds for you, tackle your adventure with the right pair of boots and we guarantee there will be no hiccups during your outing.
